Meet Lynn Wolfstone

Principal of Wolfstone Landscape Design in Portland, Oregon

I understand. Making decisions about an investment that’s constantly growing and changing can be overwhelming.

Gardens are living time-based art, so choosing materials that will survive and thrive over time can feel like a guessing game. Many clients come to us after some DIY trial and error attempts that ended up costing them more than if they had hired a professional. The truth is, creating “home outdoors” requires a plan that works both functionally and aesthetically. You are setting the stage for your life outdoors. That’s why we have devoted our practice to helping homeowners in the Pacific Northwest transform their underused, uninspired landscapes into spaces that both nourish and delight.

Here’s how we’re different from the rest:

  • We find the communication tools and imagery that help you conceptualize or “see” your plan.

  • We ensure you feel confident about your design decisions and are supported throughout the completion of your Master Plan.

  • We understand that this process requires time. We are flexible with schedules and accommodate your need to thoughtfully review your choices.

  • We connect you with the right licensed landscape construction professionals to install your project. Then we make recommendations for skilled ongoing garden maintenance.

Let’s create the garden of your dreams.

More About Lynn

Lynn Wolfstone’s parents, grandparents, and siblings were all avid gardeners. As a young girl, Lynn observed their daily rituals: tending to the ornamental garden beds, the ½-acre vegetable garden, a fruit orchard, and the natural woodland that surrounded the property.

While her upbringing gave her an early appreciation for the outdoors, Lynn didn’t pursue landscape design right away. Instead, she earned her bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of Oregon and worked in the world of galleries and fine arts. Lynn returned to school and received a degree in Landscape Technology from Portland Community College. In 2009 she founded Wolfstone Landscape Design and has since provided custom landscape designs for residential clients throughout the Portland area.

Lynn’s design work is informed by her understanding of horticulture, art, architecture, and landscape history. Her botanical knowledge extends far beyond the Pacific Northwest, having traveled extensively throughout Japan, the U.K., Eastern and Western Europe, and Mexico to immerse herself in some of the most inspiring gardens from around the world.

Lynn is a member and former president of the Oregon Chapter of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers. She is also a member of the Association of Northwest Landscape Designers, the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon, and Pacific Horticulture. She serves on the Garden Resource Committee at the Portland Japanese Garden.

“Physically, psychologically, and spiritually we are designed to respond to nature. Whether it is joyfully watching the resident hummingbird that hovers in your strawberry tree, inhaling the scent of a jasmine vine atop a beautifully designed screen, or being captivated by the multitude of colors in a border of flowering perennials, your garden can offer a restorative experience.”

Meet the Team

Kira Iwasaki

Passionate about art and anything handmade, Kira creatively capitalizes on every project's unique features and assets.

After earning her bachelor’s degree at Oregon State University, Kira spent over 8 years as an interior residential and commercial designer in Portland.

Inspired by her family’s 100-year involvement in the bedding plant industry, Kira decided to embrace the legacy by going back to school and earning a second degree in Landscape Technology from Portland Community College. Kira's design background has been invaluable in developing outdoor living spaces for residential clients. She has many years of professional and personal experience with ornamental and perennial gardens. Her extensive work with native plants on behalf of schools, nonprofits, and other public organizations is critical to assisting residential clients with their native plant selections.

When not developing garden designs for Wolfstone Landscape Design, Kira is designing jewelry, serving on regional boards, gardening, cooking, traveling, and hiking.

Jennifer Harrison

At the age of 11, Jennifer was playing her French horn at the Tanglewood Music Festival under the baton of Leonard Bernstein. Fortunately, Jennifer had another great life passion and that was gardening. Jen is a graduate of Northwestern University and has pursued continued studies in Landscape Technology from Portland Community College and Horticulture from Clackamas Community College.

When not measuring properties, identifying plants, and creating CAD base maps for Wolfstone Landscape Design, Jen is performing with fellow musicians locally and nationally.

Jen finds time for gardening, traveling, hiking, and camping whenever possible.
